The German wooden packaging industry recorded a further reduction in output and sales revenue in the first quarter 2010.
Sales generated by the businesses with at least 50 employees covered by the official statistics fell by roughly 26 % in the first three months of this year to a113m (Jan-March 2008: 153m). The number of businesses remained unchanged at 41 (41) whereas the number of employees fell by another good 8 % to 3158 (3446).
In doing so, in the early months of this year the industry largely perpetuated the unsatisfactory pace of business it had already registered last year. With combined sales revenue of a461m (2008: 636m), the 41 (43) companies with more than 50 employees posted a sharp reduction of 27.5% in the business year 2009.
