As the No.1 plastics show in Asia, and the third largest worldwide, Chinaplas 2008 will feature numerous novel applications of plastics in a wide range of manufacturing industries, including food packaging, home appliances, automobiles, pharmaceutics, and toys. Food packaging These five industries are industries that occupy important roles in China. For instance, in food packaging industry, plastics account for 53% of materials used in the industry in China, while the share is 30% worldwide.
An example is bottled water packaging. Most bottled water may become unsuitable for drinking if it is not consumed in three months' time after production, due to the excessive release of antimony from the plastics bottle. Home appliances With respect to home appliances, China has developed into a world producer with gross industrial output of more than RMB600 billion per year. And in January to May 2007, China's output value of home appliances reached RMB363.5 billion, up 19.51% year-on-year. It is expected that the ongoing plasticization of home appliances, which results in a 29.5% year-on-year growth in the demand of plastics for home appliances, as well as the increasing consumption and export of color TVs and air-conditioners, will propel China's demand on engineering plastics, MPPO, TPE, special engineering plastics and modified engineering plastics. At Chinaplas 2008, raw plastic material developers will showcase their latest innovations for home appliance manufacturing.
Also having a trend of plasticization, under which global automakers have been trying to raise the use of plastics in automobiles from 10% currently to ultimately 40%, domestic and overseas suppliers of raw material, injection molding machinery, extruder and plastic mold have been active in developing the latest technology. At Chinaplas 2008, many global chemical suppliers, moldmakers and machinery providers will display their engineering plastics, specialty chemical, elastomers, composite materials, fluororubber, additives, injection molding systems, molds and hot runners for the manufacture of automobiles. Pharmaceutics Pharmaceutical plastics has been in great demand in China, with annual average growth rate over 15% and the more and more widespread use of plastics in the ever growing disposable medical products and home-use medical devices. Thermoplastic engineering plastics are particularly hot. Many apparatuses, such as syringe, scalpels and instrument casings, are made of plastics. In addition to pharmaceutical packaging, thermoplastic engineering plastics can also be used in rehabilitation equipment and micro detectors used in surgeries. In the production of pharmaceutical products, HDPE and PP have recently replaced the brownish glass bottle used for medicine storage. Furthermore, plastics have opened up new possibilities for artificial organs and self-repair material. Toys China is the largest manufacturer and exporter of toys. It exported US$12.6 billion worth of toys from January to August 2007. The country, therefore, has a huge demand of raw plastic materials, consuming more than 3 million tons of resin worth RMB25 billion, according to statistics. In Chinaplas, raw materials like TPE and modified engineering plastics, including PA, PP, PC, ABS, PBT and MPPO, as well as additives, colorants, PP resins, POM resins, high performance molding resins and PVC resin powders, will be presented to buyers from the toy manufacturing sector. |
